HPSC HCS 2026 – Selection Process
The selection process for the Haryana Civil Services involves three rigorous stages:
- Preliminary Examination: Objective type test consisting of two papers (General Studies and CSAT). Used only for shortlisting candidates for the Mains exam.
- Main Examination: Descriptive written examination comprising four papers (English, Hindi, General Studies, and one Optional Subject).
- Personality Test / Interview: Evaluation of the candidate's personal suitability for a career in public service. Final merit is based on Mains and Interview marks combined.

HPSC HCS 2026 – Exam Syllabus & Paper Pattern (Prelims)
The Preliminary Exam consists of two papers, each carrying 100 marks. Paper-I covers General Studies (History, Geography, Polity, Economy, General Science, and Current Affairs). Paper-II is the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), which tests comprehension, logical reasoning, and basic numeracy. Note that there is a penalty (negative marking) of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. CSAT is qualifying in nature, requiring a minimum of 33% marks.
